A compact two-bedroom cabin maximising its location on the Breede River for the Airbnb market

These clients had had enough of corporate and were ready for a change of pace!
They found a development in the Western Cape in the beautiful Renosterveld and after a feasibility study believed they could successfully live and run an Airbnb there.
Due to the sensitive nature of the site, and the time-saving it offers, a prefabricated building system was the solution the client opted for. Meik was approached by a company that offers a prefabricated solution to design the units.
The Dream Actualised (Design response)
Due to the nature of the construction system, the building is underpinned by a modular grid and services have to be located in internal ducts and as close together as possible. As a result of this, the final design has externally accessible ducts located centrally behind the kitchen in the living area.
The central living space is flanked by 2 en suite bedrooms that flow out onto a decked outdoor space through large full-height glazed doors. The deck is covered by a pergola and contains additional amenities like a hot tub and hanging. Generous bedroom suites feature compact en suite bathrooms and a free-standing tub. Storage is cleverly located behind the bed as part of the headboard.
Off the Grid.
Due to the remote location, the only services provided are water from the developer. A water holding tank and the related services are located beneath the platform of the unit. Gas geysers are located in service ducts and power is generated by means of photo voltaic panels located on the roof.
In addition, the prefabricated panels offer a much higher insulation value than conventional masonry construction.
