MEET THE ARCHITECTS BEHIND THE DETAILS!
FOUNDER & PRINCIPAL ARCHITECT
NADINE CLARKE

Hi, I’m Nadine Clarke, Founder and Principal Architect at Meik Architects, a practice I started in Johannesburg in 2012.
I look sort of like the image shot here…
Architecture, for me, is about much more than creating something beautiful. Good design needs to solve problems, respond to the way people live and ultimately work in the real world. I believe that creativity must be a solution.
I have lectured at the Wits School of Architecture, an experience that strengthened my knowledge of building regulations and the technical side of architecture. I’m also a real detail nerd. I love design, am somewhat OCD, often speak before I think, and suffer from what I call line-up-a-titus, a condition where things simply have to align!
That attention to detail carries through into the way I approach our projects. Building or renovating a home is a significant investment, and choosing an architect is about much more than choosing someone to draw plans. Your architect should understand what you are trying to achieve, help you make informed decisions and guide you through the complexities of turning an idea into a built home.
I’m a mom, a dog lover and just a regular human being who is fortunate enough to have a fantastic profession that I genuinely love.
If I could give anyone considering building or renovating one piece of advice, it would be this: building is expensive, so make sure you choose the right architect to guide you through the process. Understand what architectural service you are getting and choose someone you are comfortable working with; it can be a long term relationship.
I’m passionate about raising the standard of architectural service and helping homeowners understand what they should expect from their architect. I’ve written more about this on the Meik blog, because it’s a subject I care deeply about.
And if you’re thinking about building or transforming your home, we’d love to meet you and hear about your project.
