BEFORE

The Clients Dream

We arrived on site late in December to find a gutted ramshackle building! These clients had renovated previously and so had purchased the property, intending to renovate, and started gutting it when dawned on them that they needed some help in realising their vision for the property! To avoid a nightmare they reached out to meik.

The clients’ vision was to transform this property from a ramshackle maze into a modern family home. Challenge accepted!

The Dream Actualised (Design response)

Where to start?

After a brief discussion about the requirements, a structural assessment of the existing roof was our first port of call. Once the engineer had inspected the existing buildings, we then set about going through our brief generation process with the clients to understand their requirements in-depth within the imitations of a renovation.

The result is an extensive renovation with accommodation to meet the family’s requirements and that reconnects the house to the large garden.

A new carport and lobby create a sense of arrival and a refreshed entrance to the home. Living areas have been reconfigured to create a generous dining room, lounge and TV room for visits by a large extended family, and to allow for separate spaces to congregate.

A new generous kitchen connects to a private courtyard garden and atrium. A small second kitchen was required for cooking very spicy foods!

The existing pool was reconfigured and reduced in size and the pool area was connected to the house by newly designed outdoor stairs. A new free-standing pool house with an outdoor kitchen has been introduced for outdoor living and entraining.

Bedrooms were reconfigured to be en suite and connect to the garden. The existing double garage was converted into a bedroom suite for an elderly parent and private guest suite is located on the west side of the home near the living areas.

With work-from-home possibilities, two home offices were requested. A large home office is off the lounge and looks out over the garden and a second smaller home office is located off the master suite.

This renovation really tested our design skills but we loved the challenge and the result!
