Created for a design conscious, young family, this single-story courtyard home places a contemporary spin on the ‘farmhouse’ aesthetic required by estate guidelines. Situated in Candlewood Estate, there was the opportunity to retain two ancient Jacaranda trees, original to the initial farm and significant to the area, along with indigenous trees and rock formations on the South Boundary.
The brief called for a single storey home with a large amount of accommodation in a small space. The result is a home that packs a punch both in layout and detailing. The U-shaped plan creates a North-east facing, open plan Living, Dining and Kitchen space to the South of the site, opening out onto a generous patio and public entertainment courtyard. Exposed trusses and sleek steel-work yield a contemporary feel to this space. The Garage and Guest Suite spaces are positioned to the South-west, with a bedroom wing placed on the North-East to create privacy and optimize orientation.
A further nod to aesthetic is seen in the steel-detailed, expressed gable ends on the Master Bedroom and Study, along with recessed brickwork highlighting a horizontal window language, giving this home a subtle but sleek contemporary finish.
